According to the latest Red List, 4,700 species are threatened in Sweden. This is 22% of the assessed species. The trend over time is that the number of threatened species is increasing in Sweden. Between 2015 and 2020, the number increased by 11%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A species may be red-listed because, for instance, it has a small or declining population, a small distribution or because of fragmentation of the landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The majority of red-listed species live in forest and agricultural land. 10% of Sweden’s forest species are red-listed. One explanation for this is that Sweden’s woodland is being transformed into increasingly biologically monotonous production forests. There are also species that fly under the radar because it is impossible to survey all species.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
