Importance of Common Species

It is the common species that generate the bulk of important ecosystem services. E.g. pine and spruce are the two species that contribute almost all of the raw wood material in Sweden.

A few species account for the majority of our food. In Sweden, the four cereal species and four mammal species account for a large proportion of all food. Count the species next time you eat, how many do you reach in a day? A week?
