Stable Climate - Maintained Biodiversity

Carbon is stored in all living things. Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and all living things, including humans, are made of carbon. Fossil fuels were built up by living organisms millions of years ago.

Climate and biodiversity – two sides of the same coin

Climate change brings new conditions for ecosystems, e.g. when it gets warmer or drier. This leads to a loss of biodiversity when species do not have the time or the ability to move or adapt.

Rising temperatures threaten many ecosystems, while ecosystems stabilise and buffer against climate change and can counteract its effects and extreme consequences.

Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The carbon is then stored with the help of the plants’ roots in the soil.

The two challenges need to be addressed together to ensure that we humans can continue to live a good life on Earth.
