GRI Biodiversity Standard
GRI, Global Reporting Initiative, is an international organization that provides companies and organizations with standards for voluntary sustainability reporting.
In January 2024, GRI launched a revision of its standard for biodiversity. GRI 101: Biodiversity 2024 updates, expands, and replaces the standard from 2016, GRI 304: Biodiversity 2016. The biodiversity standard is annually used by over 2,000 of the over 10,000 companies reporting according to GRI Standards.
The updated standard aligns with the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Framework. It will help organizations better understand which decisions and business practices lead to biodiversity loss, where in their value chain the effects occur, and how they can be managed.
GRI is working with The European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) to align the Standard with the new requirements coming from the EU.
