Mining with nature

About us

The project Mining with Nature has been initiated by Svemin, the industry organization for mines, minerals, and metal producers in Sweden. The project is carried out within the framework of the strategic innovation program Swedish Mining Innovation, a joint effort by Vinnova, Formas, and the Swedish Energy Agency.

The project is carried out with support from the consultancy company Ecogain.

The Mining with Nature Roadmap

The Mining with Nature roadmap is the Swedish mining and mineral industry’s roadmap for increased biodiversity. In the roadmap, a common goal is defined: by 2030 to contribute to a biodiversity net gain in all regions where mining and minerals operations and prospecting take place.

Roadmap Mining with Nature (.pdf)

Mining with Nature constitutes a roadmap that roughly, yet clearly, outlines the path for how the industry will achieve increased biodiversity by 2030. It is a guidance that supports the work in setting objectives and milestones for individual companies to navigate from.

The roadmap is based on science and the principles of the mitigation hierarchy: avoid, minimize, restore, and compensate for impacts on biodiversity.

The project has generated significant international interest, and the roadmap is now translated into English, Spanish, and Mandarin.
