Ecosystem services are defined by the UN Panel of Scientists as the benefits that nature provides to humans. We are totally dependent on them for our survival.
Thanks to nature, we have air to breathe, food to eat and clean water. This would not be possible without plants that produce oxygen, plants and pollinators that produce food and wetlands that purify water.
Functioning ecosystems are a prerequisite for nature to continue to provide ecosystem services.
