Diversity Brings Resilience

Common species generate a large part of our ecosystem services. But to maintain stable ecosystems that can deliver ecosystem services over time, biodiversity is needed.

Biodiversity is needed at all levels:

  • Genetic diversity gives species resilience to, for example, climate change and new diseases
  • Diversity of species stabilises ecosystem functions and the ability to generate ecosystem services
  • A diversity of ecosystems in turn creates the conditions for a diversity of species
