Nature-based Solutions - Win win
Nature-based solutions are ecosystem services that counteract and mitigate the effects of climate change and other human-induced challenges. For example:
- Wetlands that contribute to carbon sequestration, groundwater formation and water purification.
- Forests that store carbon dioxide, lower soil temperatures and provide a wetter local climate.
- Urban green spaces that lower temperatures, absorb water and provide humidity, while providing space for recreation and contributing to human health.
A tree can be viewed as a simple nature-based solution when planted in an urban environment. Trees contribute, among other things, to air purification, a cooler climate, water management, and aesthetics. Illustration: Agnes Sandström, Ecogain AB.
